If you graduate with an apprenticeship from the MDC in Düsseldorf, you already have the best prerequisites to start your career in the fashion business. But that’s not all, we also offer you the chance to take it a step further and complete your education with the academic title of a Bachelor (BA). The MDC cooperates with renowned universities to offer you two highly interesting alternative study models.

Firstly, you have the opportunity to acquire a BA degree in “Business Administration / Fashion Management” at our partner university in Berlin, the Steinbeis Business Academy, as part of a course of study that complements your training.

Apart from that, you can opt for a shortened study abroad program at Griffith College in Dublin. Together with the cooperation of our partner university, we can offer you the opportunity of 1-year further study, which you will complete with the title of a BA (Hons) in Fashion Design.

 

BA (Hons) Fashion Design
In this Fashion Design course, you will learn the socio-cultural foundations of fashion, i.e. its history, its cultural contribution and its significance for society. In addition, your knowledge of design practice will be developed further. What’s more, interdisciplinary qualifications, such as communication and marketing techniques, are also taught, which are all relevant for your further professional career.

Griffith College
Griffith College has over 8000 students from more than 80 nations and offers almost 20 different bachelor and master programs in five faculties. The MDC has been cooperating with Ireland’s largest private university since 2015.

Admission
The requirements for admission to Griffith College are the degree “International Fashion Design” at the MDC in Düsseldorf, as well as a good command of English (ELTS 6 + or TOFL 70+).

Degree
The course of study is completed with the title of a “BA (Hons) Fashion Design”. The “Hons” stands in Anglo-Saxon universities for “honours”. It distinguishes the title from the “normal” BA and generally entitles graduates to study for a doctorate at a university. The degree corresponds to 60 credit points within the ECTS, the European system for the transfer and accumulation of academic achievement.

Fees
The fees for the course of studies at the private university will come to a total of 6,000 euro. In addition, there is a one-off registration fee of 250 euros.

BA Fashion Management
The part-time Business Administration (B.A.) program with the industry focus “Fashion Management” combines management know-how and specialist knowledge of the textile and clothing industry. During your studies, you will learn how to apply the course contents in relation to your own professional background. In this way you will expand your methodological and business competencies. A high degree of practical relevance is also guaranteed by the project, which you will work on in your company, under academic supervision, during your course of studies.

The course of study at the Steinbeis Business Academy takes 6 semesters. Lectures take place approximately every 4-6 weeks, on Fridays and Saturdays, at one of the five SBA locations nationwide. The teaching language is German.

Steinbeis Business Academy
The Steinbeis Business Academy is a business school founded by the state-approved private Steinbeis University Berlin, and which has the right to award doctorates. It promotes the transfer of expertise between academia and business. More than 6,500 students are currently receiving practically oriented training from over 1,800 teaching staff. Its successful concept is based on the worldwide Steinbeis network of experts, transfer centres and cooperation with international partner universities. Since 2015, the MDC has been cooperating with the Steinbeis Business Academy, an organization within the Steinbeis Foundation.

Admission
Requirements for admission are the German “Abitur” (college entrance examination) or “Fachhochschulreife” (general entrance qualification for studies at universities of applied sciences), alternatively the “Mittlere Reife” (intermediate school leaving certificate) with a completed vocational training of at least two years, and three years of work experience in the learned profession. Candidates must have a high degree of willingness to learn, above-average commitment and a good command of English (B2) and must take an aptitude test. Of course, the MDC staff are happy to support and advise you in the selection and registration process.

Degree
Students graduate from the program with the title “Bachelor Business Administration / Fashion Management”. The degree corresponds to 180 credit points within the ECTS, the European system for the transfer and accumulation of academic achievement.

Fees
The monthly study fee amounts to 305 euro, with a standard study time of 36 months, altogether the study fees comes to 10.980 euro. In addition, there is a once-off registration fee of 540 euros.
